One of the most important component of your anti-aging skin care regimen is exfoliation.  Exfoliating your skin removes the upper most layer of the dermis, revealing smoother, softer skin beneath.  Over time, dead skin cells pile up on the surface of our skin.  This layer of dead skin cells not only makes our skin appear dull and grey, but it causes our fine lines and wrinkles to be more pronounced! Eeek!

WARNING! I must remind you that this sponge is quite abrasive.  If you have sensitive skin, this is probably not the right product for you (ask me to recommend a different product).  If you have regular skin, you still need to use this product with care.

After cleansing the makeup off of your face using luke-warm water,  GENTLY massage the facial sponge in short circles over your skin.  Use a small amount of a cream cleanser so that the sponge glides easily over your skin.  Do NOT rub too hard…I repeat…do NOT rub too hard.  The abrasiveness of the sponge could scratch your skin if you press too hard.  But, when used properly, this product is an efficient way to exfoliate your skin as part of your anti-aging skin care routine.

Use the sponge 2 times a week to start and see how your skin responds.  If there is no irritation, you can increase to 3 times per week.  You will immediately notice that your skin feels ULTRA soft after using this on your face!

This should not replace a professional microdermabrasion, which you should still incorporate into your beauty routine 1x every 3 months.

Male Waxing Services – After Care

With summer just a few short weeks away, this is the time when we start to see more men coming to ABC Day Spa for male body waxing services.  Because many of you men don’t come all year round (too much pain??), your skin may be extra sensitive to waxing when you start coming again. One of the most common complaints I hear from my male waxing clientele is that their skin becomes irritated after waxing.

Post wax care for men (and women) is especially important.  Waxing removes the upper most layer of your skin, so if you don’t treat it gently after your service, you can definitely experience some irritation.

First, after your waxing service at our NJ day spa, it’s important to wear loose fitting clothes so that oxygen flows freely to the area(s) waxed.  Wearing tight clothing can be irritating as the fabric creates friction against your skin.  So, wear lose, comfortable clothes to your appointment.

Second, in the days following any male body waxing procedure, I always tell my clients to keep their skin clean and dry.  Take an extra shower if you need to, but you definitely do not want to let perspiration sit on freshly waxed skin for an extended period of time.

Lastly, an aloe-based gel is good to apply for a few days after your waxing service. This will soothe the skin and help with any redness that you may have.

In general, if you take good care of your skin, you will not have any problems after your waxing service.
